Airport Secutity

Coming Home

Have you been abroad lately, I’m thinking mainly of travel by air?

You arrive at the airport at flight – 3 hours and you queue. If you are lucky there might just be time to grab a cup of coffee between queues but you can’t depend on it.

Why?

Security!  They are checking for fluids etc in hand luggage.

Why?

If a couple of people wanted to they could easily smuggle the components of an improvised explosive device onto an aircraft hidden in assorted body cavities and pockets.

Why?

It isn’t going to stop a suicide biological attack .. one person with haemorrhagic fever on a plane with 400 others for 4 hours …

It doesn’t stop the coming home attack

You enjoy your trip. - Then you fly home.

You queue for an hour plus to prove you are allowed in........ non EC citizens appear to clear in minutes.

You go through to baggage collection.

It is crowded, there are bags stacked against the wall, you watch the same bags go round and round and an hour later you leave, lucky.

So the “Mad Man” packs a bag full of explosives and a clock. Entering the airport at some small holiday destination he checks his bag, gets on the plane and flies to Gatrowsted. Passes through Passport Control, finds his bag, arms the bomb, puts it back on the conveyor and walks out through customs. An hour later ….. Boom!

My questions are:

How many people have been arrested as a result of being caught taking a banned substance onto a plane?

How many people have been arrested for trying to enter the UK on false documents?

What checks are made on bags that go in the hold?

Why is security conspicuous only by their absence in the Baggage Hall?

Can I have the process redesign job?
