I have had one rant on the subject of Stupid Things Banks do .... now for a second.
Try this walk into your local branch of your bank with several hundred pounds in cash and a bill from the "My Bank" Visa Card and try to pay the bill .... sorry we can only accept up to £250 in cash... customer .... paying bill .... and they wont take the cash! Madness!
Why the attempt to pay in cash anyway .. well when the account was opened in 19XX a password was agreed .... when it was time to pay the bill by phone ...... they wanted the password ...not the bank account password to get the money out but the credit card password to pay the bloody bill! So it had to be cash to clear in time except ... well I told you this bit so it was £25 for a late payment plus interest followed by a long conversation with several people to get that lot off but there was still the problem of the interest accrued on the interest that was credited back ......
Another High Street Bank and trying to open a student bank account .... it was like the old joke about credit only being available to people over 90 when accompanied by both parents ... after 6 weeks of trying to get someone to accept the passport, driving licence and god knows what else as proof of ID went back to "My Bank" and managed to get an account because as a customer introducing a new account holder less evidence was required.
Meanwhile the drug barons and terrorist organisation were buying houses for cash ... yeah money laundering through a credit card and student bank account ... good idea.
Once again the honest suffer because the powers that be need to be seen to be doing "something" however poorly thought through!
