There are speed cameras that are useful
There are speed cameras that are really only about making money
and then there are the Stupid Speed Cameras.........
Let me give a local example.... This camera is setup but not working.

The camera faces south, about 100 m from the end of a slip road, part of the motorway junction. Beyond it are a pedestrian crossing, then a roundabout .... |

So why is it silly, it points up the road so the traffic slows before the camera and acclerates towards the crossing, which is rarely used anyway then it is possible to reach 80 + mph before the roundabout.
In the past few years the roundabout has been the sight of several crashes, mainly at night, nearly always one car and the railings, I get stopped at the pedestrian crossing once or twice a month.
Wouldn't it make more sense to point the camera the other way, towards the crossing so that traffic slows as it approaches the crossing and has less room to accelerate before the roundabout. Safer for the rare Pedestrian, Safer for other drivers at the roundabout. Safer for the speeding idiot. More likely to catch the speeding idiot rather than the lane changer having to adjust their speed.
