Cheap Skate Con No1 Travel insurance ..... we only take it out for the medical bit really which is just as well! But I am starting to worry about that too! I noticed reading through the policy that covered the trip to the Caribbean ... you can see the hurricane pictures else where on this site! ... that the policy excluded loses caused by weather. Does that mean if a gust of wind had caught a table cloth spilling red wine over a £200 dress and a £500 video camera the claim would be rejected? I'll come back to this.... but here's the story line When I lost my watch on holiday this year, it was in a bag that got knocked overboard from a small ferry, I was asked to prove the loss.... "Did I report it to the police?" ..No there was no crime so why tell the police... "Did I report it to the tour rep?" ...No I was not on a Package Holiday (that's why I have your insurance rather than the tour companies Der!!!! ) "Did I report it to reception?".. Reception? at a villa? ... "The boat captain?" A 65 year old Portuguese fisherman.... no I was more concerned with making sure we had passports, villa and car keys safe still ... "Well since you can't prove you lost it we think you are lying scum and won't meet our promises to you.... " or that is what it sounded like they were saying to me Wrong Guys you are the lying scum selling people the idea of security knowing that you will use every weasel word and gap in your crappy badly phrased, difficult to read, policy document to get out of paying.... The answer to the question above ...even on a still day they would try to claim it was the wind (i.e. weather,) unless you had 2 police officers and a solicitor on hand to state that the air was completely still, to get out of paying out! With respect to the medical cover I am not convinced that if I fall and break my arm the medical cost won't be weaselled out of on some spurious ground .. a pre-existing but undeclared loss of bone density due to aging... or some similar crap that they have already charged you for in your premium! Travel Insurance is a cheapskate con you feel obliged to take! Post script After much complaining and going through the appeals process Direct Travel did pay up ... well after the excess it was less than £200 .... and lets face your average crook wouldn't waste 20 or 30 hours trying to get £200 .. you earn that much in a week on minimum wage! My apologies to anyone on minimum wage for being so flippant about an amount of money it takes so much effort to earn. |
