Ted's favorite football team (that's soccer to Americans) I first saw them play on a beautiful March day in about 1966. My friend Meash (the late Michael Hall 1956 - 83?) and I were taken to the match by Joyce (Miss L J Hall, the founder of Bryony School) his adoptive mother. The Gills got hammered 5 - 0 by Watford I can recall Derek Woodley having a good game on the wing but the rest..... During the early 70's I and my friends... Nick Skinner, Phil Whitehead, Elaine Stewart, Trev Smith, Ceri Morgan Val Eames, Jeff Reid, Martin Kiernan and others I'm sure, all used to go to nearly every home game . I even went to Watford for the first ever 5th round FA Cup tie ever to involve the Gills, lost again 2 -1..... Derek Woodley came on as Sub in this game too.. provided the cross from which Mike Green(?) scored then another that Brian Yeo nearly put into the net. Since then I have had less time to get to matches but I was there for the first Wembley appearance of a Gillingham Team We was robbed 2 nil up at 90 mins 2 all at 98 mins and losing in extra time...... Still a year later I was in Linikers Bar, Playa de Americas, Tenerife to see them triumph over Wigan in the same fixture. I was there the next season to see the Gills score the first Football League goal of the season and their first ever in Division 1! Unfortunately they let in 2 and didn't win the match
Three years later... ... but I have always followed the results & seen the TV appearances!
